Things to consider before buying Nespresso Aeroccino 4 Milk Frother

Check out its specs in detail!

Overall Design

Nespresso Aeroccino 4 is manufactured with a lot of care and thought into it. It fits snuggly on your kitchen counter sporting a chrome jug, clear lid, a whisk, connector base, and seal.

The spout on the front makes pouring less messy while its ergonomic handle makes the grip safer than ever. I know in the morning, I tend to drop things, so it's a nice feature! Additionally, if I somehow forget about the handle, the Aeroccino 4 tumbler design makes sure that the hot contents do not migrate to the outer edge.

The spring inside the Nespresso Aeroccino 4 stays in place whether you’re heating or cold frothing the milk. The whisk is magnetic, which means that it will readily stick to the bottom connector when you place it within the chrome jug.

Its four-button interface makes it easy-peezy to use. It weighs just 2.2lbs, so it’s easily portable for travel, just put the Nespresso Aeroccino 4 in your bag with other important items, and there you go.

It has a stainless steel and rigid plastic outer casing. But I find the look of the Nespresso Aeroccino 4 a bit old-fashioned as it does not match the vibe of most modern kitchens. Since Nespresso is famous for its sleek yet modish look, we expect something equally extraordinary for its frother line. Still, other than the looks, it functions great!

Usability

I’ve tried and tested the Aeroccino 4 milk frother and noticed a few things while using it.

Okay, so I love to make Latte Macchiatos when I run out of cold brew, and for that, I froth oat milk at about 155°F.

But one thing that I’ve seen is that heating the milk also creates a bit of foam (obviously not that dense like Cappuccino or latte) at 145°F, which is less than the temperature of a traditional Latte Macchiato setting.

So I end up spending less time waiting for the frother to do its job. That's a plus!

As previously mentioned, its four-button interface is simple to use. You can press any button to switch on the machine (after plugging it in).

Quality of Foam

One thing you should know about the Nespresso Aeroccino 4 is its foam quality. It produces an excellent foam when compared to the Aeroccino 3.

It has two foam-density which makes it more enticing for me to play around with as I'm getting into latte art. For instance, if you press the Latte Macchiato setting, it creates a silky, smooth, and thick froth.

When you select the Cappuccino option, however, it creates a lighter foam that dabs perfectly on the top of your cup. It also heats milk for things like hot chocolate by pressing the Hot Milk button. Still, there's a Cold Macchiato milk setting for generating a dense and chilled foam.

Note: The froth formed depends on the milk’s protein content.

Simple Programmability

The Nespresso Aeroccino 4 has an automatic shutdown that turns the machine off after 9 minutes of inactivity. This function drastically cuts energy use and saves you the headache of remembering to switch it off when you're in a hurry.

You can press any button from the four buttons to On the machine again. Apart from that, it prepares hot and cold froth in approx. 80 seconds and heating milk is done in around 150 seconds.

Milk Frothing Capacity

Inside the Nespresso Aeroccino 4 milk frother, the max lines for milk foam preparation is 120ml/4oz, and for non-foam heated milk is 240ml/8oz. This amount is sufficient to make one to two drinks at a time.

Face Value

As of this review, the Nespresso Aeroccino 4 retails at a price of $120. Of course, it is a premium device, but I think you truly get what you pay for here.

You really cannot beat its foam quality. I think if you are wanting to get into creating latte art and you don't work at a coffee shop, you won't really find a better milk frother than this one.

How to use The Aeroccino 4 Milk Frother

Suppose you want to know what to do once you have received your frother. Aside from opening the box, reading the manual, and running water over it for the first time, here are the steps to get frothing right away!

Step 1:
Wipe the Aeroccino 4 jug with a clean and damp cloth.

Step 2:
Place the whisk spring in the correct position.

Step 3:
Fill the frother with the milk up to one of the two MAX levels. The lowest level indicator is for maximum frothing, and the highest level indicator is for heating the milk (with no froth).

Step 4:
Cover the Aeroccino with the lid and place it on the connector base.

Step 5:
Choose the preferred style of milk that your coffee requires (one of the 4 buttons).

Step 6:
The selected button will blink when pressed and becomes steady when the milk is ready. Also, you can stop the preparation at any time by removing the Aeroccino from the base or by pressing any button.

Step 7:
Use a non-metal spoon to collect the foam from the Aeroccino and add it to your beverage. Finally, enjoy your favorite coffee.

Your Results Will Differ Based on the Milk You Choose

Keep in mind that your results may vary. I tend to use plant-based milks because I am lactose-intolerant. So, if you choose to use low-fat milk, you might notice a more dry and stiff foam. However, higher-fat milks and creams may result in wet and silky froth.

Some tips to make amazing foam to crown your latte are:

  • Use fresh milk and avoid using milk close to the expiry date, as it will not froth well.
  • Use UHT (Ultra heat treatment) milk boxes for the best results.
  • Use refrigerated milk.
  • Shake the milk box so that protein is distributed evenly.
  • Traditionally, the best milk for frothing is cow’s milk, but if you're plant-based like me coconut milk, soy milk, almond milk, and oat milk all work well too.
  • Don’t try frozen milk as it will not froth.

Cleaning & Maintenance

As mentioned above, the Aeroccino 4 parts are dishwasher safe, well except for the base not included. This simplifies the cleanup process and encourages users to froth more frequently.

Nespresso has a cleaning manual that they also suggest its users follow as a frequent cleaning guide.

These are the steps that you need to follow for proper cleaning:

Step 1:
To initiate cleaning, detach the Aeroccino 4 jug from the connector base. Then remove the spring, whisks, seal, and lid.

Step 2:
Either hand wash these parts with warm and mild soap, or you can place them into the dishwasher at 158°F.

Step 3:
Do not submerge the jug and base in water, as it is not good for Aeroccino.

Step 4:
Before plugging in the Aeroccino 4, make sure its jug’s base is completely dry.

Aeroccino4 Milk Frother &  Secura MMF-015 Compared

So we've briefly compared the Aeroccino to it's predecessor, but how does it stack up against a cheaper competitor like the Secura Milk Frother?

Considerations Nespresso Aeroccino 4 Secura
Heating-only option Yes Yes
Frothing-only option Yes Yes
Design Stainless steel and pressed exterior Stainless steel polished look
Milk Temperature 156-145°F 129.9°F
Foam Consistency 2 types 1 type
Price $120 $40

As you can see, the temperature is the main factor here, but you'll want to factor in the foam consistency options too if you are still undecided. You can get 3D latte art with the Aeroccino 4 where you're stuck with 2D art on other models like the Secursa. That was my main decider when choosing between these two models.

FAQs

Nespresso Aeroccino 3 vs. 4: Which is the better frother?

Aeroccino 4 is the upgraded version of Aeroccino 3. Aeroccino 4 has more milk settings than Aeroccino 3. The earlier one uses the single whisk, and you don’t need to take that out, unlike Aeroccino 3, which has two whisks. Not just that, Aeroccino 4, with an ergonomic handle, has better quality foam than Aeroccino 3.

Why is my Nespresso Aeroccino 4 milk frother not frothing?

Reasons are filth around the magnetic whisk, loose connection to the base, burned-out copper strip, a faulty thermocouple, and much more. For more details and solutions, read our guide on how to fix Nespresso Frother.

What Milk is best for frothing?

Full-cream milk or milk high in fats creates thicker and creamier foam. Whereas, low-fat milk or skimmed milk produces lighter and airier foam. It is all due to the fat content in the milk; the more protein, the more froth. Choose an extra creamy oat milk to experience my favorite plat-based froth!

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you like frothy beverages and want to take a stab at creating latte art like the pros, then I recommend getting the Aeroccino 4 as its features and quality truly outshine the competition. If you’re particular about foaming consistency, then this is a go for you.

This versatile, practical, and ergonomic Aeroccino is portable and produces varied drink options from froth to foam. It can do whatever you need without those super expensive espresso machines.

However, if you are preparing multiple beverages at once, it has a smaller capacity. Furthermore, it's weird ribbed design looks a bit old-fashioned and outdates, but its build quality is top notch. Finally, it’s pricier than other frothers available on the market, but its features may make up for the price of having multiple frothing devices in your kitchen.
