Since ancient times sales funnels have always been part of traditional marketing and business. Recently however, it appears that funnels are being discussed everywhere online.

People want to learn more about the marketing concept and the ways it could be utilized to enhance their online marketing efforts. Read on to learn more on the sales funnel to ensure Internet marketing success.

The Sales Funnel: What is it?

A marketing funnel is not an actual funnel. The marketing concept employs the word "funnel" to describe a sales process, from beginning to end. The funnel is a clear comparison because it allows potential customers to "Unqualified prospects" at the top and narrower chances for conversions to sales at the lower levels.

The top of the funnel or entry point to the funnel will be people we might consider to be "unqualified prospects" These are people who might require your services or products however, you've never contacted them before. You'll have many opportunities and sales in the future, and you'll also have customers who've purchased your product/service.

Another reason a lead-generation funnel idea is efficient is that it lets you track potential customers at various levels of the sales process. Using the sales funnel, through finding out the number of prospects who are qualified throughout the process, it's possible to predict the amount of potential customers that will, after a while, become actual customers.

A sales funnel allows you to determine exactly how is going on and how your sales strategy is not working or working, or if your campaign isn't attracting a sufficient amount of prospective customers at any point within the process. This information will allow you to determine which areas to concentrate your efforts to help reach your goals in marketing. It can be used to monitor and evaluate the sales process of your customers.

The Front- End or the Sales Funnel Top

Your sales funnel's top is your most active and important area in your sales process. It requires constant testing. There are virtually endless front-end strategies that are limited only by your imagination and resources.

The primary purpose of the front end is to draw in prospective clients and convert them into buyers further down the sales process.

When a potential customer opts-in to your offering, they are "qualified". This is the stage in the sales funnel where the potential client or "Unqualified prospect" is a qualified lead due to the actions they've taken which show they are interested enough to buy your product.

You must drive targeted traffic on your blog, website or squeeze page for your front-end to work. Article marketing, PPC ads, social media (Google+ Twitter, Facebook, YouTube), banners and blogging are the best methods and resources to do this.

There are numerous tools to "qualify" the "Unqualified prospect". One of the most efficient is the squeeze page. You can provide something valuable that is related to your product/service that people can obtain for free or at a drastically reduced price in exchange of their email. You can select from newsletters and related reports, as well as video and e-mail courses.

We can see that the front-end of your sales funnel is the place where people are drawn to your sales funnel. Now what do you think of the back-end?

The Bottom of The Funnel: The Back-End

The back-end (or the bottom) of the sales channel is where the majority of profits and sales occur. It is where you will typically find higher-priced products in this area. These would all be related to the same niche, but in a different format such as video, audio or live interaction.

The main difference between front and back-ends is in the kind of client as well as the cost of the product/service being provided.

While it's the case that only 1% of those who enter the front end will be able connect to your back-end system, this tiny percent may not be of any significance. This is due to a small few will invest a greater amount of money.

While front-end services and products may be less expensive than $100, back-end services and products typically cost in the hundreds or thousands. This implies that the bottom of the sales channel also known as the back-end is the primary source of income.

The sales funnel can be as simple or complex as you want to make it, as long you have the proper resources and creativity.
